Arginine Health Benefits

Arginine is an amino acid with some remarkable health benefits— in particular for your cardiovascular system. In fact, Arginine has a huge range of anti-aging, health-promoting properties that keep our cardiovascular system young, your heart strong, your blood vessels elastic keeping us biologically young.

The body uses Arginine to produce nitric oxide (NO), a critically important molecule that acts as a vasodilator. In other words, Arginine makes NO, a substance that dilates our blood vessels and thereby increases the rate of blood flow throughout the entire body, organs and all extremities—including, of course, through the penile tissue.

The health benefits of NO are so profound that NO was made the Molecule of the Year in 1992 and the research team, which discovered NO was awarded the Nobel Prize for medicine in 1998.

Nobel Prize winner Dr Louis Ignarro, the lead researcher behind the study, released a successful book entitled NO More Heart Disease, detailing all NO’s benefits for the human body. Arginine effectively combats erectile dysfunction, allowing the body to produce more NO, increasing the rate of arterial blood flow into the penis, essential to achieving an erection. Importantly, as NO levels are enhanced, the body is able to control the erection entirely on its own and at any time, removing the need for tactical timing of ‘popping pills’.

Benefits of Better Cardiovascular Health -  by Body Part

Penis

erection_anatomyNobel Prize winning research has shown that Arginine effectively combats erectile dysfunction.

The body is able to produce more Nitiric Oxide (NO) and thus increase the rate of arterial blood flow into the penis to achieve a stronger erection.

Importantly, the body is able to control the erection naturally, on its own and at any time.

The tactical timing of taking temporary PDE-5 Inhibitors such as Viagra, Cialis or Sildenafil is therefore not necessary.

Muscles

stevie funnyMore effective supply of nutrients means increased performance during exercise and faster recovery of muscle fibre afterwards. The long term effect is an increase of muscle tissue and associated decrease in fat tissue – a change in “body composition”. This results in a large number of health benefits such as better joint support, overall hormone (testosterone) production and an overall favourable and attractive body composition.

Heart

progressive plaque inside arteryReduced risk of heart attack in the coronary arteries. Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is normally caused by narrowing or complete blockage of the coronary arteries called atherosclerosis.

This is sometimes described as “hardening” or “clogging” of the arteries and is caused by the buildup of (evevalted LDL) cholesterol and fat deposits (plaques) on the inner walls of the coronary arteries. These plaques restrict blood flow to the smooth heart muscle by physically blocking the artery or by causing abnormal artery tone and function.

Without an sufficient blood supply, the heart is starved of oxygen and other essential nutrients it needs to function properly. This may cause chest pain called angina pectoris. If eventually blood supply to a section of the heart is entirely cut off, or if the energy demanded by the heart muscle becomes greater than its blood supply during exercise, a heart attack may occur.

Arginine significantly decreases the risk of heart attack by relaxing the coronary arteries allowing more blood to pass through and enabeling any plaques to break off.

Brain

Better blood flow reduces the male active brainrisk of heart attack as well as stroke

Arginine also stimulates production of human growth hormone in the pituitary gland, located at the base of the brain which produces the human growth hormone, aka the anti-ageing hormone. It improves memory as it reduces the signs of ageing. A study published in the “Current Opinion in Clinical Nutrition and Metabolic Care” in January 2008, reported that increased NO caused by elevated Arginine levels stimulates the release of human growth hormone and minimizes the symptoms of ageing.

The increased NO as a key neurotransmitter in the body also has an effect on the origination and development of Alzheimer’s disease according to a study published in the “International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Pathology” in 2008.

The combination of L-lysine and L-arginine is also known to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depressions according to a study published in “Behavioral Brain Research” in 2007.

Male Fertility

Male fertility is a complex issue affected by many factors. Arginine benefits male fertility both directly and indirectly:

Arginine has a positive impact on sperm count, motility and morphology

Arginine has a positive impact on sperm count, motility and morphology

Direct Benefit: As a raw building block for sperm cells and an energy nutrient for both sperm cells and testicles (key ingredient for NO) Arginine improves sperm morphology, motility as well as count1. Sperm count has statistically halved over the last 20 years.

Indirect Benefit: A healthy erection allowing for intercourse is of course essential for male fertility and Arginine is a common remedy for erectile dysfuntion. As the key ingredient for nitric-oxide (NO), it enables the erection to take place mechanically by relaxing the penile muscles and allowing the spongy body (corpus cavernosum) of the penis to fill with blood. 2

Professor Frank Sommer at the University Hospital in Hamburg, Germany recommends Arginine to improve male fertility:Arginine is very important for many processes in the testicles and penis and can have a positive impact on the strength and mobility of sperm“.

Entire Human Body

Cardiovascular diseases kill more people than anything else from the age of 45

Arginine may be helpful for treating conditions that benefit from vasodilation, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, such as hypertension, coronary heart disease or arterosclerosis, angina, atherosclerosis, congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, intermittent claudication and peripheral vascular disease.

Indeed, cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 Killer in the western world over the age of 45.

Products

arginmaxArginine can be bought on almost every high street, but at a higher price. Large chains usually sell small bottles of 300mg or 500mg Tabs at a much higher average price that what can be bought online.

Personally I have always bought Arginine, which has been specifically produced for erectile dysfunction.

These products, such as such as Euviril, amitamin M Forte, PRELOX, aminoexpert VIGARIN and ArginMax have the daily dose of 3,000mg or more (the more the better) neatly measured out.

Having tried all of the above, I found that M forte had the best value for money ratio, quality and delivery service.

Arginine has a huge range of anti-aging, health-promoting properties, keeping us biologically young.

When combined with Pine Bark Extract these effects are reinforced helping to keep our cardiovascular system sustainably and naturally young and strong – so you get your blood where and when you need it – also down below :-)

Dosages & Side Effects

Because Arginine is naturally produced in the human body, it can be supplemented safely in large doses (10g – 15g per day depending on bodyweight) before unwanted side effects may occur. Amino acids are so important that recommended daily doses can be quadrupled for short periods without causing complications.

Generally speaking, a minimum daily dose of 3,000mg is required for results to become noticeable. Atherosclerosis and hypertension are treated with doses from 3,000 to 5,000 mg that promote cardiovascular health in general. Treating erectile dysfunction ideally requires a slightly higher minimum daily dose of 5,000mg. Diabetic complications are treated with up to 9,000mg / day, split into three doses of3

girlfriend funAs a guideline, Arginine can safely be taken up to a dose of approximately 150mg / kg body weight per day. At 70kg body weight, you can therefore easily ingest 10,500mg. Increasing this ratio to 200mg / kg body weight (i.e. 14,000 mg for a 70kg male) may produce abdominal pain or bloating, simply because the dose is excessive.

If you decide to take Arginine supplements, it’s wise to keep an eye on the label and monitor how much you are consuming daily. To give you an idea however, you’d have to eat 3kg of steak to ingest just 4,500mg Arginine.

Just Arginine is not enough

Early studies concluded that a dose of 5,000mg per day of Arginine does not have a satisfactory effect on treating erectile dysfunction as only 31% of subjects reported improvement.

However, when the Arginine was combined with 80mg of Pine Bark Extract per day, even a smaller dose cured erection problems in 92.5% of participants.

Both nutrients reinforce each other’s effect and together make an erection-boosting “Dream Team”.

Personally, I take 1,500mg (half the daily dose) Arginine in the morning and again in the evening for a total of 3,000mg. And I was amazed about the unexpected positive side effects, which improved my overall wellbeing.

My general energy is better, I feel more switched on, I feel strong because I can exercise better and this makes me more confident. I also have peace of mind, because I know I am doing my thing to prevent cardiovascular disease, the No 1 killer in the Western World above the age of 45.

So now that I make sure I get my Arginine and Pine Bark Extract every day. I have zero side effects and all my systems are running on full steam – especially when it counts! :-)
